Krogh's 7th Annual Turkey Trot
One of the biggest fundraisers of the year is set for Thanksgiving morning, as the Sparta Education Foundation readies for Krogh's Annual Turkey Trot. More than 2,000 runners attended the 2012 Turkey Trot, one-mile fun run and 5K race, which has come to be known as the 'tradition before the tradition." New for 2013, adults, kids and pets can participate in a costume contest.
The celebration begins the night before at the Packet Pick-up and Pasta Party on Wednesday, Nov. 27 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Lake Mohawk Country Club. Dinner will be provided by Villa Capri. Guests of registered runners are also welcome at the Pasta Party for $5 each.
Thanksgiving morning kicks off with the one-mile fun run at 8:15 a.m., followed by th 5K run at 8:45 a.m., both in front of Krogh's . Runers and walkers will travel along East ShoreTrail, with views of Lake Mohawk, turn around at Spear Terrace and end back at Krogh's. Medals and prizes will be awarded in several age divisions, from 6 to 70-plus. Trophies go to the top overall male and female participants in the 6-9, 10-14, 15-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69 and 70-plus age groups.
Through the Turkey Trot, the SEF is continuing to encourage community and private sector relationships thatserve the interests andneeds of Sparta's public schools.
Participants can register online until November 24 at www.KroghsTurkeyTrot.com or in person on Thanksgiving morning from 7 to 8:30 a.m. in the Lake Mohawk Country Club ballroom. Mail-in registrations and checks can be sent to Sparta Education Foundation, 270 Sparta Ave., Suite #104, PMB 126 Sparta.
Fees for the 5K are $28 through November 24, and $30 Nov. 25 - 28. The 5K youth run for 17 years old and under is $23 through Nov. 24., and $25 from Nov. 25 to 28. One-Mile Fun Run participants must be at least 5 years old or with a parent. The fee is $10 through Nov.24 and $15 from November 25 to 28. All Fun Run participants receive a ribbon. The Sparta Education Foundation has awarded more than $410,000 in grants to all five of Sparta's public schools since 2007. The foundation is an independent, nonprofit organization whose mission is to engage the entire community in philanthropic giving that strengthens the public schools, supports teachers and inspires students.
